The network brings together seven research groups across six European countries. Each group hosts ECRN-OWC activity locally and contributes to joint projects, training schools and publications.

The Integrated Circuits group at IT Aveiro is part of the Electronics research cluster of the Instituto de Telecomunicações. COMLAB

COMLAB is the Digital Signal Processing, Multimedia and Optical Communications Laboratory at Università Roma Tre, directed by Prof. Alessandro Neri. The group focuses on telecommunication and multimedia systems, with particular attention to security and the evaluation of Quality of Experience in new immersive systems. Research areas include optical wireless communications, visible light communications, vehicular ad-hoc networks, nano-scale communications, plenoptics, multimedia security, deep learning, IoT, and localization.

OWC at Institut Fresnel

Research group led by Dr. Mohammad-Ali Khalighi, Associate Professor (H.D.R.) at Institut Fresnel and École Centrale Méditerranée. The group focuses on optical wireless communications, with research spanning optical satellite communications, underwater optical communications, wireless body-area networks (WBANs), and quantum-secure communications. Active areas also include IoT connectivity, channel modeling, AI-based signal processing, and bio-inspired optimization methods for next-generation 6G aerial-satellite and underwater networks.

IDeTIC

IDeTIC (Instituto para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación en Comunicaciones) is a University Research Institute at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, established in 2010 as the successor to the CeTIC technology centre. Directed by Dr. Jesús B. Alonso Hernández, the institute brings together researchers organised into divisions covering communications, photonics, signal processing, AI and learning technologies, networks and telematics, thermal engineering and organisational development — driving R&D and innovation in communications technologies.
